Giulia Parlato is an Italian photographer based in London. Her work is often concerned with Sicilian culture and sense of loss, referencing mythologies and ancient archetypical tales. With an attentive look at the idea of failed encounters, she is undertaking an exhaustive journey into this notion and trying to understand which objects and spaces men usually use to search something that in reality can never be found. Experimenting with different photographic approaches, the materialization of this lost desired object is what she ultimately tries to capture in her photographs.
With a focus on questions of representation and subjectivity, Salvi Danés (b. 1985, Barcelona) employs a documentary approach, capturing the existing scenes he encounters, before playing with the diverse possible readings of the narratives depicted. Salvi has seen his work included in exhibitions such as Photoespaña 2015 and Paris’s Festival de la Jeune Photographie Européenne (2012). Salvi was featured as a Foam Talent in 2014.
Samuel Solazzo (1993) studied visual communication at Bauhaus University Weimar (Germany). In the early summer of 2018 he finished his Bachelor of Arts degree with a solo exhibition at Galerie Iconotop located in Weimar. He is currently living in Weimar, shooting for Bauhaus 100.
Zhao Qian is a visual artist living in San Francisco and China. His projects have been exhibited in solo shows in 001 Gallery (Rome, Italy), Reminders Photography Stronghold Gallery (Tokyo, Japan) and Lianzhou Photo Festival(Lianzhou, China), as well as having been features in various national and international group exhibitions.
Ewa is a Warsaw-based artist which creative practice employs a mixture of painting, photography and digital media. Doroszenko’s artistic research addresses questions of contemporaneity, especially the meaning of the image in technological reality
Elsa Leydier is the first artist to initiate the visual chain-linked visual conversation during the first week of Soft Power Palace laboratory. Elsa Leydier is a French photographer based between Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Lyon (France). In her photographic work she aims to interrogate images that are used to define iconic places and territories.
Soft Power Palace laboratories officially begun! For the next six days we will be collecting visual materials from six photographers invited to collaborate with us. Based on different geographical locations, they will initiate a chain-linked visual conversation, hunting for similar visual formulas.
Atlas of Forms is a curatorial research developed by Ardesia Projects for Soft Power Palace Festival at Kunstgebäude. Through a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach Atlas of Forms aims to trace the appearance, disappearance and survival of forms in various historical and geographical locations.
The first week will be dedicated to the collection of images. Six photographers from six different countries will be asked to submit images that record local cultural symbols. The submission process will be chain-linked, one photographer having to respond to the previous photographer’s images, in order to activate a search for common cultural symbols. Simultaneously, we will be responding to the submitted images by collecting relevant archival material. The objective of the first week will be to accumulate a vast amount of images and visual formulas to work with during the second week.
The second week will focus on the reading and assembling of the collected visual archive, taking as an example Aby Warburg’s Atlas of Images. Five professionals from various disciplines will be invited into our studio to curate the visual material on different panels. Our participation to the curation process aims to be a background aid to the invited professionals, without our curatorial voice taking over; what we are interested in is to reveal the decision process of the curators, in order to understand how different research fields work with, understand and interpret cultural symbols.
Ewa Doroszenko is a Warsaw-based artist which creative practice employs a mixture of painting, photography and digital media. She earned a Doctor of Fine Arts degree (Painting Specialization) from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland. Her artistic research addresses questions of future technology in tune with digital aesthetics and the traditional fine arts. Ewa Doroszenko is beneficiary of many residency programs, including: Klaipeda Culture Communication Center (Lithuania 2017), Atelierhaus Salzamt in Linz (Austria 2016), The Island-resignified in Lefkada (Greece 2015), Kunstnarhuset Messen in Ålvik (Norway 2015), Foundation AAVC Hangar in Barcelona (Spain 2014), Fondazione Del Bianco in Florence (Italy 2006).
